Graduation project by Yaryna Fedoriv at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
After a night of bombing, people in Kyiv wake up and choose life once again. Those living under war need no reminder of its horrors. Everyday rituals can instead become acts of continuity and quiet celebration.
Having learned the nearly extinct craft of glass engraving with ruby wheels, Yaryna Fedoriv returned from Italy to Ukraine and established her own studio. Amid nightly attacks and personal loss, she cultivated an internal territory untouched by fear and destruction, developing a collection of twenty engraved glasses. Each glass is inhabited by memories of her grandmother playing Schumann, fragments of Proust and Paul Celan, illustrations from old theatre books, princesses from a French perfume advertisement and gardens inspired by ‘Last Year at Marienbad’. Made for a celebration yet to happen, the glasses await the end of the war, when the designer can open a bottle of champagne and pour it into one of them.
