Remembering Hands
Graduation project by Tana Jeić at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
How does craft carry knowledge across generations? ‘Remembering Hands’ is a participatory archive that explores craft as a mnemonic protest and poetic resistance to institutional oblivion. Inspired by the textile collection of Tana Jeić grandmother and the Balkan tradition of prelo (collective crafting), the archival project explores craft as a way of storing and retrieving memories. In workshops held in homes and cultural institutions across Zagreb, participants first recalled and shared stories about women whose domestic knowledge had shaped their lives, then translated those memories into hand-shaped ceramic sculptures. The installation and catalogue bring together 45 of those hand-shaped sculptures and their recorded stories, inviting visitors to gently uncover these layered histories. ‘Remembering Hands’ proposes craft as a living archive through which knowledge, memory and relationships unrecognised by institutions can pass between generations.
