Traditionally, the videographer in a performance is the observer and archiver. With 'Rig Power' wearable filming rigs turn videography from a mere tool of documentation into an active contribution to performance. Each rig can be reassembled for a specialised function, using a growing collection of parts. For example, it might be elongated to shoot from above, optimised for live editing, or worn by an actor to create intimate close-ups of facial expressions. The rigs dictate the operator’s movements, both orienting the digital gaze and shaping the physical performance. As theatres increasingly use recording technologies to reach audiences beyond the auditorium, cameras become a mediator between stage and viewer. Whether through online databases, projected live feeds or hybrid streaming, ‘Rig Power’ challenges the hierarchy that treats performance as primary and recording as secondary.
