Zada-자다
Graduation project by Subeen Park at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
‘Zada-자다’ (‘to sleep’ in Korean) is an embroidery kit which Subeen Park created to help fellow insomniacs tackle their problems of falling asleep through discovering a proposed personal ritual. Referencing a childhood memory of hand-embroidering at night whenever they couldn’t fall asleep, the designer found that the simple, repetitive action of stitching offers a gentle lull that leads restless minds to sleep. The kit, consisting of threads, needles and differently sized embroidery rings, instructs users to embroider the words “zada-zada”, or an equivalent expression in their mother tongue, directly onto their duvet cover, until they fall asleep. The project reimagines sleepless hours not as a struggle to endure, but as a performative ritual that disperses and clears thoughts at one’s own pace. Ultimately, ‘Zada-자다’ embraces the stitched rhythm of the night and helps discover a journey toward peaceful sleep.
