Digital Doors

Sterre Dingemanse

Bachelor

Graduation project by Sterre Dingemanse at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

As young people become increasingly independent online, they must manage their digital security with little formal guidance. Yet many are unaware of why and how they should better protect their personal data.

Developed by Sterre Dingemanse, ‘Digital Doors’ is a physical teaching method that turns abstract cybersecurity concepts into practical classroom activities. During a lesson, lower secondary students explore which personal data different apps collect, evaluate the strength of their passwords, and learn about the risks of reusing the same password for multiple accounts. By making invisible digital behaviours tangible, the method helps students recognise vulnerabilities and provides them with tools to take action to improve their online security. After several rounds of prototyping and testing with young people, ‘Digital Doors’ has been delivered multiple times successfully as a complete lesson at secondary schools in Eindhoven, and has demonstrated its value as an effective educational tool to improve digital literacy.
