Resistrance

‘Resistrance’ is an installation inspired by the powerful bass speakers used in Greece’s underground rave scene. Low frequencies, rhythmic repetition and spoken stream-of-consciousness texts create a vibroacoustic environment in which sound is experienced through the body as much as through the ears. Drawing on ethnographic research within Greece’s DIY rave community, the project considers the underground rave as more than nightlife. Against a backdrop of economic instability and political disillusionment, these temporary gatherings become spaces where participants build collective presence through rhythm and movement while practising care and autonomy. The installation asks how sound can bring strangers together, how gathering and dancing can become acts of resistance, and how these temporary communities leave lasting social and political traces.
