Set(s)
Graduation project by Roosa Laine at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
As younger generations move between houses and apartments, ‘Set(s)’ asks how physical structures can help people settle into new places. The project draws on the Finnish rintamamiestalo, a simple wooden type-house introduced in the 1940s. Delivered as a package and often built by returning soldiers themselves, it offered a chance to re-establish roots and regain a sense of safety at home. Roosa Laine translates this building and packaging principle into a modular system of wooden frames and wallboard panels. These familiar construction materials keep the structure practical, portable and allow for individualisation. Supplied as a ready-to-assemble package with pre-drilled holes, it requires no specialist tools nor experience. The parts can be arranged in different ways, growing or shrinking with the user’s needs before being taken apart and rebuilt elsewhere, allowing routines and a sense of home to travel with them.
