A House Where a Day Becomes a Year
Graduation project by Ning-Ju Hsu at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
After migrating from Taiwan to the Netherlands, Ning Ju Hsu found that dreams and waking life began to share the same temporal logic. Memory, homesickness and displacement unfolded not through linear progression but through repetition, overlap, rupture and return. She began to question why experience must appear coherent and chronological in order to seem real.
‘A House Where a Day Becomes a Year’ is an installation that translates a five-year archive of recorded dreams into a spatial language of movement, sound and light. Suspended sculptural frames, inspired by the beaded curtain in Ning-Ju Hsu’s childhood home, slowly shift in relation to one another as moving images are projected across their surfaces. Visitors encounter an environment in which no single narrative settles, allowing different memories, places and realities to coexist.
