Inner Landscapes: mapping the self through material collections

Maya Caroni

Bachelor

Graduation project by Maya Caroni at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

With ‘Inner Landscapes’, Maya Caroni offers a glimpse into her inner world through an installation unfolding in two parts. First, a process of looking towards the body, grappling with the tension associated with finding space within. Working intuitively with scraps of steel, Maya Caroni bends, hammers and welds them, reacting to the material and shaping it into a series of crafted vessels. Secondly, a series of intricate wearable sculptures are created using brass hardware that belonged to her late grandmother, such as rivets, zippers and buttons. These lighter pieces represent the intimate world that wants to come out, and are hung delicately, wanting to be shared. While both outcomes manifest the designer’s own process, they also have universal appeal, revealing both the dark and light that can be found within all of us, neither existing without the other.
