Neuro- Mytho- Pots

‘Neuro-Mytho-Pots’ is an ongoing series of hand-thrown ceramic jars that gradually transform into friendly, mythological beings. Through an intuitive process of hand sculpting, each vessel develops its own unique character and presence. Lip by lip, eye by eye, each jar becomes an act of unmasking, revealing the creature within. For Luca Jooste, working with clay becomes a way to comprehend and embrace neurodiversity. The repetitive yet unpredictable nature of the ceramic process mirrors his experience of the world, balancing routine and uncertainty, control and discovery. Through mythology, these difficult-to-explain experiences find a visual language, taking form as imagined beings. Inspired by South African folklore from his own upbringing, the creatures emerging from these jars are regarded as gentle companions. Through craft and myth-making, these 'Neuro-Mytho-Pots' invite viewers to approach difference, in others and in themselves, with curiosity and kindness, celebrating the many ways of being human.
