Huh, What? Haha!
Graduation project by Lex Lemson at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
Many everyday objects are designed for a single, fixed purpose. Designer Lex Lemson moves through the world like a scout, finding overlooked potential in the objects that surround us. In ‘Huh, What? Haha!’, he takes familiar items and shifts them slightly off course, revealing unexpected qualities in their forms.
The project presents two objects developed through different approaches. One object reshapes a radiator into a chair, exposing the sculptural rhythm of its folded steel plates. The other transforms a street barrier to become a display cabinet. The cabinet is built from the same materials and uses the same visual language as the original barrier, turning its attention-seeking presence into a place for display.
Working with existing objects introduces limits that guide the design process. The resulting pieces remain recognisable yet slightly disorienting, prompting a second look at objects we normally pass without noticing.
