‘News Factories’ investigates how repetition and coordination shape what becomes visible within Bulgaria’s online media landscape. Rather than focusing on whether individual stories are true or false, the project examines how identical or near-identical articles circulate among news outlets, amplifying particular political actors and narratives through repeated exposure.

Based on the designer’s collection and analysis of Bulgarian news articles, the project maps their publication and reposting over time, uncovering connections between outlets that are difficult to perceive individually. An interactive installation translates this research into visual “chains”, showing how stories travel through the media network. Visitors interact with these through an arcade-style console and physical controls, while a large projection displays the selected articles, images and outlets involved. ‘News Factories’ proposes media literacy as understanding not only what information we encounter, but also the systems of power that determine why and how we repeatedly encounter specific narratives.
