Kolya Cordua

Bachelor

Graduation project by Kolya Cordua at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

Looking to close the gap between individual DIY work and global mass production, Kolya Cordua has found a middle ground in community production, rooted in the ‘Low-Tech’ movement. Working amongst the squatter community in Rotterdam, a production method was tested to produce a series of storage containers from salvaged materials using three widely accessible tools: a drill, a router and a saw. Each participant in the workshops is trained in a different stage of the process and rotates between workstations, first learning and then passing on their knowledge to the next participant. At the end of the day – following a round of quality control and high fives – everyone gets to take home their share of the finished product. While these items were created for a specific context, Kolya believes that this communal production methodology can be scaled up to meet different needs, from canned goods to community housing.
