Graduation project by Jiwon Hyun at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

‘JUNG ONE: The Garden’ is a hybrid conversation installation that helps families discuss caring for ageing parents before a crisis makes nuanced conversations difficult. Shaped by the designer’s experience of living apart from her family, the project considers how ageing, distance and changing family structures affect the ways people listen, express their needs, and show care for one another. Developed through research with families, healthcare professionals and community care workers in South Korea and the Netherlands, the project offers two modes of interaction. ‘Tend from Afar’ uses digital invitations to initiate conversations across distance, while ‘Tend Face to Face’ provides physical 'Question', 'Activity' and 'Listening' cards for in-person discussions. Selected traces of these exchanges appear in a shared digital garden. By giving care a visible, evolving form, the project presents it not as something settled in a single decisive conversation, but as an ongoing practice that requires repeated attention.
