Loosing Certainty

For Jamie Oh, life is full of ambiguities, and most things can not be defined with a single fixed meaning. Translating his complex personal philosophy into a scenography, objects from Jamie’s own home are carefully recreated in translucent silk, suspended within a fully enveloping space. Familiar objects – a guitar, washing machine or frying pan – are still recognisable by tracing their outlines, but as soon as the sheer fabric layers overlap the borders between them become blurred. Surrounded by fabric on all sides, the audience gets an obscured view of the outside world. By expressing that even the most obvious space doesn't hold a fixed truth, Jamie Oh emphasises the inherent ambiguities of this world. A lack of obvious meaning is not something to be scared of, but something you can find comfort in.
