‘Eating with Spiders’ is a piece of furniture that invites spiders to the dining table, challenging comfort and inviting new forms of attention, negotiation and mutual presence. The piece’s sculptural features extend upwards, coming together as an intricate base for spiders to nest in. Catering to both humans and spiders, the conversation piece challenges our perception of who we share our homes with and who is invited to the table. It suggests novel eating rituals to go beyond human-centred perspectives, and fosters trust between species, advocating for an architecture of care and cohabitation. The space built around tension and vibration, is inspired by the forces of a web, transmitting vibrations differently across its surface, creating a gradient that defines distinct zones for both species. This allows them to inhabit the same space while experiencing it differently: an active dining space for humans and a quieter environment where spiders can spin webs and catch prey.
