Absurd Daily

As a designer, Hye-in Jung’s process is guided by a fascination with asking absurd questions about what an object can be. By arranging leftover scraps of paper, she developed a language of 2D forms without a function in mind, then translated these at full scale out of wood and styrofoam before coating them with epoxy resin and coloured paint. The result is a series of disobedient and ridiculous objects: a heavily cantilevered lamp that looks as if it could topple over, a coffee table designed to hold only a single espresso cup, and a candle holder so tall that it requires a purpose-built step to light it. By pushing the boundaries of what we can expect from conventional household objects, Hye-in Jung hopes to bring a little bit of humour into daily life.
