Sikgu
Graduation project by Have you eaten? at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
A four metre long table is surrounded by low wooden platforms inspired by pyeongsang, traditional Korean platforms for resting, gathering and sharing food. With ‘Sikgu’, Seojun Yun creates more than a place for a meal: the table becomes a setting for community, hospitality and exhibiting art.
Having left Korea early in life, the designer has long wondered what makes something feel Korean. This search led him to start ‘Ohn’, an initiative bringing artists and designers together to explore Koreanness through shared practice.
Rather than looking for a fixed aesthetic or traditional form, Seojun Yun turns to how food is shared. In Korea, ‘bap meogeosseo?’ (‘have you eaten?’) is a way of asking after someone. The word ‘sikgu’ refers to those who eat together: a family formed through a shared meal. Like laying the ground for a feast, the table brings people together while offering a podium for work made within the community.
