PRISMA
Graduation project by Harim Lee at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
With ‘Prisma’, Harim Lee created a series of light sculpture that explores light through analogue interaction. Developed from an interest in light as something that often remains unnoticed, the designer explores how intangible phenomena can become design materials. Rendering light as a responsive material that is present rather than a consumable resource, the piece invites users to engage both physically and perceptually. The sculptural object applies optical principles and phenomena, combining its transparent structure, polarised film and rotational movements. When twisted or turned, layers of polarisation shift, causing colours to appear, disappear and transform. These effects emerge through direct interaction, creating a responsive dialogue between human gesture and light. The object aims to make the behaviour of light tangible and encourages the observation and reflection on it as a living material. It fosters a deeper, more intimate relationship revealing the subtle dynamics of movement, matter and perception: breathing life into light.
