"""I never see you at the club."" ""Ok? I never see you at the re-distribution of acoustics"""
Graduation project by Gary Duvernay at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
Emerging from the self-organised response and activism of the electronic music scene in France following the 2024 dissolution of the National Assembly, ‘“I never see you at the club.” “Ok? I never see you at the re-distribution of acoustics”’ asks how artistic practice might sustain political engagement beyond specific moments of collective mobilisation. Through an acoustic installation and a 24-hour composition presented through PA speakers and vibrating metal surfaces, the installation combines the visual language of club sound systems with the authoritarian form of public address systems. Using self-built recording tools and experimental sound processing, it distorts sound rather than simply reproducing it, proposing a form of acoustic justice. The piece deviates from a politicised form of listening that values clarity, authority and fidelity and replaces it with vibration, resonance and distortion, examining how hierarchies of sound determine who is heard, who is silenced and which forms are socially legitimate.
