~(> The A in Acorn is for Anarchy <)~
Graduation project by Erle Hobbs at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
This zine collects deep recipes, which propose an alternative food system based on community, exchange and mutualism. Developed with non-commercial food networks in Eindhoven and Rotterdam, the project proposes foraging as a practice for sustenance, as it applies traditional recipes to use acorns, a wild nut that is abundantly common in the Netherlands.
Rather than merely describing the steps of making a particular dish, the deep recipes also provide the pretexts to cooking and harvesting. The project focuses on sharing knowledge while simultaneously questioning power structures, and proposes food production outside of industrial agriculture. As a seasonal and regionally specific practice, foraging wild foods – particularly acorns – becomes a tool to consciously inhabit the lands we’re living on.
