Transgressions

Elizabeth Flora Kruse

Master · Critical Inquiry Lab

Graduation project by Elizabeth Flora Kruse at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

‘Transgressions’ begins as a personal question about trans and queer parenthood and expands into an examination of the reproductive systems that shape everyone who plans to have children. Drawing on lived experience and the violence of medical and legal institutions, it asks how parenthood might be imagined beyond normative frameworks. Developed through autotheory, interviews, fictional writing and collaborative world-building, the project layers lived experience with speculative narratives, using collage, drag and monstrosity to expose the contradictions embedded in existing reproductive systems.

The installation stages a familiar fertility clinic waiting room, where a performer acts as a gatekeeper before visitors encounter a three-channel audio fiction unfolding in cycles of waiting, listening and discussion. While grounded in trans and queer experience, ‘Transgressions’ situates reproductive justice as a subject that concerns everyone, inviting the audience to imagine forms of kinship, care and responsibility that exceed institutional and medical definitions.
