The Shape of Your Voice
Graduation project by Daniel Hallundbæk Kastrup-Larsen at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.
‘The Shape of Your Voice’ is an installation that plays with the sculptural properties of an iridescent water film, incorporating voice as an interactive element. Guided by sound healing practices, designer Daniel Hallundbæk Kastrup-Larsen explores a sense of personal liberation through the discovery of one’s singing voice. The installation immerses the audience in a dark blue space, with a soap bubble basin at its centre. A structure of pulleys suspends a flexible frame, which lifts as soon as a person sings a continuous tone into the sound-activated controller. A giant bubble surface forms. Continued singing, then, moves the soap bubble surface back and forth, revealing varying surface structures and intriguing three-dimensional patterns. Becoming performers, audience members engage in a process of play until the bubble bursts. While the installation provides a playful and captivating visualisation of one’s voice, its vulnerability is reflected in the material’s fragility.
