Trash Cloud

Bachelor

Graduation project by Catrine Faurby at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

Polly the Pig roams supermarkets, sidewalks and trash cans, feeding on the plastic we leave behind. Like the pigs that once ate kitchen scraps, she lives off our waste. The more we throw away, the bigger she gets.

‘Trash Cloud’ introduces this character within the world of performance collective Trash Club. It drifts through space as a giant plastic cloud, sometimes shaped like a pig — recalling the piggy bank as an early container for excess. When deflated, it collapses into a pile of trash.

Plastic collected from streets and supermarkets is melted together, then stitched into a patchwork skin. Layers create an inner chamber that allows the form to inflate. For a moment, the waste becomes something alive and absurd, turning the problem of consumption into a spectacle.
