Glory to the Ordinary

Camille Gros

Bachelor

Graduation project by Camille Gros at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

The car is the ultimate symbol of modernity, carrying a promise of freedom, individualism and efficiency. As such a ubiquitous functional item, it typically becomes absorbed into the streetscape. When travelling through rural areas, vehicles meet other byproducts of modernity, supermarket parking lots, high-voltage pylons and suburban housing estates, each blending into the landscape as a backstage necessary to keep society functioning. Camille Gros’ sculpture turns this daily reality into a monument, translated as bas-reliefs onto a 1:1 scale model of a humble Renault Twingo. Embracing cutting-edge design processes used in the complex world of car prototyping today, the body has been created out of CNC-milled foam, coated with glossy automotive paint. Together, these scenes cast a monumental gaze onto the mundane context that hides in plain sight.
