Unskilled Worker

During his studies in Eindhoven, Athanasios Paspaliaris started a moving business with a van. This role granted him intimate, unscripted access to the private transitions of engineers, students and galleries. ‘Unskilled Worker’ is a film documentation of Eindhoven's urban labour landscape, captured entirely behind the scenes. Moving through the city while transporting people’s belongings, the camera enters a layer beneath the polished image of the ‘design city’. The film is driven by the sounds of labour: the steady rhythm of breath, the friction of boxes on pavement and the clatter of van doors. Through this physical work, fragments of conversation emerge about migration, belonging and the search for home. ‘Unskilled Worker’ reveals mobility not only as a service but as a relational space shaped by the weight of objects and the voices heard in transit.
