Scaffolding Furniture System

Arnaud Sallard

Bachelor

Graduation project by Arnaud Sallard at Design Academy Eindhoven, 2026. Shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven on Design Map, location F5.

Growing up in Paris, Arnaud Sallard became fascinated by the scaffolding structures that continually reshape the city’s streets. 'Scaffolding Furniture System' is an elegant furniture system made from pale ash wood, which closely follow the logic of scaffolding, but feel lighter, softer and suited to the home. Through research, collaboration with specialists, prototypes and material testing, the designer created rails held together by rounded connectors and removable pins, and refined every proportion and connection. Five-axis CNC machining provides the precision the system requires, while careful assembly and finishing reveal the grain and warmth of the wood.

Presenting two shelving units and a table, Arnaud Sallard provides examples of applications rather than fixed outcomes. The same standard pieces can be taken apart, replaced and assembled into benches, chairs, larger storage systems or a sofa frame. By translating an everyday industrial structure into carefully crafted wood, the pieces reveal unexpected elegance in something usually experienced as temporary, heavy and cumbersome.
